7 Ways to Make a Website Load Faster

Visitors leave slow websites quickly, and search engines favor fast ones. These seven changes give the biggest gains for the least effort.

1. Compress and resize images

Images are usually the heaviest files. Resize them to the size they are displayed at and use modern formats such as WebP.

2. Lazy-load below-the-fold images

Add loading="lazy" to images that are not visible at first, so the browser loads them only when needed.

3. Minimize CSS and JavaScript

Remove unused code and minify files. Smaller files download and parse faster.

4. Use caching

Set cache headers so returning visitors do not download the same files again.

5. Use a CDN

A content delivery network serves files from a location near the visitor, reducing delay.

6. Limit third-party scripts

Every chat widget, tracker or font adds requests. Keep only what you truly need.

7. Measure, then improve

Test with Google PageSpeed Insights, fix the largest issues first, and test again. Measuring prevents wasted effort.
